Our Curriculum Overview

The Big Picture

The ‘Big Picture’ of our curriculum outlines the principles of teaching and learning at Ashburton Primary School. These principles are separated into three sections:

The Intent: Our vision, design and aspirations for our curriculum

The Implementation: The strategies and steps that we take every day to achieve our curriculum intent

The Impact: To evaluate and evidence standards of teaching and learning

The Big Picture of the Ashburton Primary School Curriculum  INTENT

  • Achieve our Core Statement – ‘Putting Children and Learning at the heart of everything we do’
  • Ensuring our vision is firmly embedded across all aspects of school life, especially the curriculum.
  • Embed our core value of respect in the curriculum and the dispositions of our pupils
  • To deliver a ‘knowledge-engaged curriculum’ where skills and vocabulary are developed alongside knowledge and understanding.
  • To develop learning to learn skills (metacognition) and subject specific skills through a knowledge engaged curriculum.
  • Reading is promoted across the curriculum. Throughout the day, the children are expected to use skills/knowledge gained in reading across the whole curriculum.
