Reading

Reading at Ashburton Primary

The intent of our READING curriculum is to deliver a curriculum which is accessible to all and that will maximise the outcomes for every child so that:

All children are INSPIRED to develop their talents and love of reading for pleasure and for learning across the curriculum and beyond.

Children BELIEVE in themselves and their abilities; At Ashburton primary School we believe 100% of children can, should and will learn to read. We want the children and their parents/ carers to believe this too.

Children DISCOVER, learn from and enjoy a wide range of books, fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

Children ACHIEVE their full potential in READING. Our aim is for 100% of our pupils to learn to read fluently and with understanding.

Children BELONG to a caring community, which supports them in their READING learning journey.

100% of Ashburton Primary School children learn to read with confidence, enjoyment, fluency and understanding at the expected level for their age.

They will have the skills and understanding to access age-appropriate fiction, non-fiction and poetry books for enjoyment, discovery and learning.

We aim to create a life-long love of reading.
